The view of the North San Francisco Bay from Alcatraz Island.
08:30 am: PICK UP FROM HOTEL
08:45 AM: FARMER'S MARKET IN REDWOOD CITY
We have a local farmer's market every Saturday. The perfect opportunity to get some fresh food to cook in Sonoma.
10:00 AM: BRUNCH AT JOHNSTON'S SALTBOX
Brunch at a place just one town north of us before heading up to the city.
12:00 PM: TAKE THE FERRY TO ALCATRAZ ISLAND
Our ferry to take us to the historic jail leaves the dock promptly at noon!
The expensive, but famous, Hog Island Oyster clam chowder.
02:30 PM: LUNCH AT HOG ISLAND & VISIT THE FERRY BUILDING
If it's too hot for clam chowder, we sit outside and eat some raw oysters!
03:45 PM: VISIT COIT TOWER, CROOKED LOMBARD STREET, AND THE VICTORIANS OF PACIFIC HEIGHTS
We'll head back to the car and do a sight-seeing tour of the east side until dinner. Don't worry, we'll get out to stretch our legs and take pictures!
06:30 PM: ITALIAN DINNER AT PICCINO OR FIOR d'ITALIA
We can eat at the Italian restaurant that my coworker's mother owns (it's amazing), or the place dad saw on the Travel Channel.
The comforting lamb ragú at Piccino.

08:30 PM: DROP OFF AT HOTEL
Our little furry friend will be patiently awaiting for us to get home. Don't worry, we'll have a neighbor feed him dinner and take him out on a walk while we're gone. He'll be joining us on our road trip the next day.
PACKING TIPS FOR THIS DAY:
- Wear walking shoes! Alcatraz requires a lot of uphill walking.
- Bring a light jacket (or windbreaker or raincoat) for the ferry, in case there is a breeze on the bay.
- We'll be going straight from our sight-seeing to dinner, so nice-casual is recommended. Nothing fancy, most of San Francisco is very laid-back and casual. I guarantee Adam will wear a t-shirt and jeans.
